Hospice supporters celebrate the Coronation

The Coronation of King Charles III was a special moment in our country’s history and it brought our community together to celebrate while raising vital funds to help patients and families who need Saint Francis Hospice.

Singing for the people in our care

Pupils at Dame Tipping Primary School kicked off the royal occasion by visiting the hospice on Friday 5^th May to sing patriotic songs, including the national anthem.

Thanks to the generosity of Godfrey’s bakers in Ardleigh Green, the children were treated to cake and the fundraising team were able to serve cake to patients, families and staff.

How the community came together

We know we have the best supporters and we were overwhelmed by their efforts to celebrate the Coronation while raising funds for patient care.  

Here are just a few of our superstar supporters who went all out for their local hospice over the bank holiday weekend.

Hornchurch Library organised a tea party and raised £263 and Barclays Bank in Romford raised more than £195.

Rajiv Gadhvi at Alvin Rose Pharmacy in Longbridge Road, Dagenham celebrated by raffling off a Coronation hamper for the hospice.

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of local people who hosted street parties across Havering.

Michelle Garner and residents from Pemberton Avenue raised £845 - they had a DJ and had fun dancing in the rain!

Shirley organised a garden party where 50 people came along and thanks to donated food and prizes, they raised £732.

Nicola Ford and residents from Highfield Crescent and Highfield Road raised £1,000 by organising a raffle, music, food, dancing and even an ice-cream van.
 

And residents from neighbouring streets in Harold Wood - Birkdale Avenue, Firham Park Avenue, Royston Road and Ashton Road enjoyed a game of tug of war, sharing food and a BBQ and raised £100!

Celebrations even continued into the following week with Haircraft hair salon in Oak Road, Harold Wood, holding their Coronation For Care tea party on Monday 15^th May.

Royal celebrations Hammers style

And that’s not all! West Ham Foundation invited the hospice’s fundraising team to raise awareness of the charity at its home game against Manchester United on Sunday, 7^th May. The game ended in a 1-0 win for The Hammers so it was celebrations all round!

It was absolutely amazing to see our hospice logo and brand light up the stadium. Our Patron Sir Trevor Brooking, who is a former West Ham and England player, was also there to give his support.

We are incredibly grateful to the West Ham Foundation and everyone at West Ham for giving us the opportunity to be there and for making us so welcome on the day.

The Hammers fans were also amazing and from all the comments we received, it was clear that Saint Francis Hospice is a well-loved and respected local charity which has touched the lives of many of their families.
