Go Orange this Summer 2024
Go Orange is Saint Francis Hospice’s annual fundraising campaign where the local community is called on to raise money to help people and families who need hospice care. Here Lisa Denison from the charity’s Local Engagement Team, tells us why this campaign is so important and how people can get involved.
You’d never know from the weather, but summer is here and so is our Go Orange campaign!
We’re asking our local community to Go Orange and fundraise their way over the summer months. Wear something in our distinctive orange brand colour and make a donation, host a bake sale or a sponsored event. There are so many ways to Go Orange and our supporters never cease to amaze us with the creative ways they come up with to support us.
If you’ve experienced the care at Saint Francis Hospice, you’ll know the difference it can make to people’s lives. But if you haven’t had any contact with the hospice, here’s why hospice care matters.
Our mission is to deliver the best palliative and end of life care to people who need it. In the past 12 months, our professional and compassionate teams have cared for 2,000 people in the local community. They were also there to support their families and loved ones.
313 individuals were admitted to our ward and 639 people were supported by our Hospice at Home team. Our bereavement counsellors held 5,246 sessions and 614 people received pastoral care.
As part of the fundraising team, I have the privilege of meeting so many people whose lives have been transformed because of the holistic care they received at the hospice and in the community. They can live as independently and comfortably as they can, for as long as they can, knowing they have a team of professionals there to care for them if and when they need it.
And when the time comes, the hospice gives people a choice about where they would like to be cared for in the last days or weeks of their life.
We’re proud that we do not charge people to access our specialist services, but there is a huge cost. As a charity, Saint Francis Hospice depends on the generosity of the people it serves.
That’s why we’re asking you to Go Orange this summer and support us in whatever way you can.
