Last week was Dementia Action Week and the morning of Thursday 16th May saw a gathering of many healthcare professionals within the Havering and extended community at Saint Francis Hospice for their Dementia Reflection Morning. It was a fantastic morning, facilitated by the wonderful team at Saint Francis Hospice, sharing many personal reflections and professional knowledge on such an important topic.

Community knitting project

Radfield Home Care Havering & Romford has started a community knitting project to support Saint Francis Hospice, which has been at the heart of our community for 40 years this year.

The overall aim of the project is for our community to work together to put a smile on the individuals on the wards, their families, and the professionals supporting them. In this past week, the first cohort of knitted and crocheted goodies were dropped off to the hospice which varied from twiddle muffs (which are especially great for individuals living with Dementia), angels, teddies, hearts, dolls, scarves, and socks amongst other things!

Local Saint Francis Hospice charity shops have been contacted too and drop-offs will be made to them to sell some of the lovely items to in turn raise vital funds for the hospice.

Whether your forte is knitting or crocheting, your support will be greatly appreciated! One of the ladies who has already knitted for the project and items were part of the first delivery, self-taught herself how to knit using a machine that she brought just so she could make a difference to the individuals on the wards.

How you can get involved

Join the endeavours to spread joy and happiness! Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting things that could be donated to the wards to make the individuals and nurses smile? Maybe crochet twiddle muffs, angels, teddies or hearts… anything that can be donated will be very much appreciated!

If you can support, email HaveringMarketing@radfieldhomecare.co.uk to arrange collection of knitted or crocheted items or call Charlie on 07852 950800.

We intend to keep this project ongoing for the year, so please continue supporting to celebrate Saint Francis Hospices' 40th year and make someone smile today!
