Community donates gardening tools and equipment following thefts

When local people heard burglars had targeted Saint Francis Hospice, they kindly donated tools and equipment so volunteers could continue to maintain its beautiful grounds.

“The response from the public has been overwhelming,” Chris Franklin, Head of Support Services at the hospice.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated gardening equipment and power tools following the burglary in May. This will enable our volunteers to continue maintaining the gardens which are such an important place for everyone at the hospice.” 

Brian Bracken has been a huge supporter of the hospice since we cared for his beloved wife Ruth in 2013.

On Thursday, 21st September, Brian visited the hospice to donate a hedge strimmer and leaf blower. It was a very special visit for Brian as it would have been Ruth’s 72nd birthday.

“It always gives me great pleasure to help Saint Francis Hospice,” said Brian.

“Everything I do for the hospice is in memory of my wife Ruth. Today would have been her 72nd birthday so it is quite auspicious that I should be here today. I shall remain a friend of Saint Francis Hospice forever.”

Jack Evans from Evans & Co Services, who kindly donated a lawn mower, added, “The hospice cared for my aunt before she died and it has also cared for other members of our family.

“When we heard about the burglary, we just wanted to do something to help.”
